Cataclysm Screens

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
Deathwing sighting...

It's no secret I'm excited for Cataclysm to come out and the latest screens posted on MMO Champion have only ramped up my anticipation.  Normally I try to shield myself a little bit from the spoilers because 1) things are still being changed and tweaked and I'd prefer to not expect one thing only to have it be completely different when the game is released anyway, and 2) it's fun for me to explore from scratch when the new game comes out and to see things in-game for the first time.  I can still remember being in awe of the atmosphere they created in a video game during my initial impression of Orgrimmar.  It was beautiful.  The city felt alive, massive, nearly overwhelming and my orc warrior knew he was home.

But for some reason I couldn't help myself in stealing a peek at the Cataclysm alpha screens.  And I'm glad I couldn't.  It will still be a fun experience stepping into a "new" Azeroth when Cataclysm hits, and checking out the early screens merely whets the apatite for more.  It's pretty amazing that after more than five years, this game continues to improve and maintain the interest of so many people.

If you're like I used to be and want to save as much surprise for the game's release as possible, don't read the rest of this article.

How long ago was that?

Where'd your head go? Excuse and bullshit and words and numbers. Here's a new post for the first time in more than... two months? Yikes. ROC probably won't be weekly anymore (obviously) but it'll still get done once in a while and there are about 5 or so unpublished (but not quite finished) posts from way back yonder in the section of existence that was months ago sometime.

So what really happened? Well there was this [event] that was overwhelmingly [adjective] and with all the [plural noun] [progressive verb] my [noun], there just wasn't enough [noun] to get to everything. [number] [unit of measure] ago I said to [name], I said, "[name], [noun] is really [progressive verb] the [noun] and I just can't [verb] with all this [progressive verb] going on." And [name] said to me, "Damian, you've got [number] options: [number] - you can [verb] yourself into the [noun] or [number] - you can [verb] a [noun] with a [noun], your choice." So naturally I chose to [verb] [number] [plural noun] and this site took a [progressive verb] [verb] into a [noun].

Sylvannas - Lament of the Highborne
Sylvannas singing "Lament of the Highborne"

My musical tastes are fairly diverse, though there is certainly a strong preference toward what would be best considered metal (Slipknot, DevilDriver, older Killswitch Engage - music purists could debate for hours on the genre of each but for me it's just easiest to consider it all metal). While that's my favorite and what's most often playing on the pizod, equally enjoyable are rock, oldies, rap, jazz, and even pop every once in a while; pretty much everything except "new" country. REAL country, like Alabama and The Oak Ridge Boys is good shit. I've even thrown "Highwayman" on Repeat-1 for days on end. Like over a week straight. Literally. No, that's not a joke. And if I need to stay awake while driving, it's classical all the way - Alexander Borodin FTW, who's with me? *sigh* Look him up.
